The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a slight reduction in fuel prices for the period 15th September to 14th October 2025. The changes affect Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene, offering Kenyan motorists a modest relief at the pump.

New Fuel Prices Across Major Cities

According to EPRA, the adjustments are as follows:

  • Super Petrol: Decrease of KShs.0.79 per litre
  • Diesel: Decrease of KShs.0.11 per litre
  • Kerosene: Decrease of KShs.0.80 per litre

Here’s how the new prices will look in different parts of the country:

Nairobi

  • Super Petrol: KShs.184.52
  • Diesel: KShs.171.47
  • Kerosene: KShs.154.78

Mombasa

  • Super Petrol: KShs.181.24
  • Diesel: KShs.168.19
  • Kerosene: KShs.151.49

Kisumu

  • Super Petrol: KShs.184.37
  • Diesel: KShs.171.68
  • Kerosene: KShs.155.03

These prices are inclusive of the 16% VAT, as stipulated in the Finance Act 2023, Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and adjusted excise duty rates as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

Fuel Price Trends in 2025

To put the September review into perspective, here’s a summary of pump prices throughout 2025 so far:

15th Sep 2025184.52171.47154.78

While prices peaked in July at KShs.186.31 for petrol, the September review shows a slight downward trend, which is welcome news for motorists and households relying on kerosene.

What This Means for Motorists

Although the decrease may seem small, every shilling counts when it comes to fuel expenses. For Kenyan drivers, the price drop translates into:

  • Reduced commuting costs for daily drivers.
  • Slightly lower transport charges for logistics and matatu operators.
  • Savings for households that depend on kerosene for cooking and lighting.

Car care tip: With fluctuating fuel prices, efficiency is key. Simple practices like maintaining the right tire pressure, avoiding aggressive acceleration, and servicing your car on time can improve fuel economy significantly.

Conclusion

The September–October 2025 fuel price review by EPRA brings a small but positive relief for Kenyan motorists. While global oil market fluctuations continue to influence local pump prices, these slight reductions help ease the cost of living and transport expenses.

Keeping an eye on consumption, maintaining vehicles well, and exploring fuel-efficient options remain the best ways for Kenyans to adapt to shifting fuel prices.
